Social Media Ads Cost Guide for South Florida

The most common question we get from South Florida business owners is some version of how much should I be spending on ads. The honest answer is that the number depends on what you sell, what a customer is worth, and how good the creative is. But nobody can plan against that answer, so here is a real breakdown of what the line items look like in this market and how to think about the budget.

Two things separate South Florida from a generic national benchmark. Auction prices swing hard with season, because from roughly December through April the tri-county area absorbs an enormous temporary population and every advertiser bids for the same attention. And a large share of the audience is bilingual, which means Spanish-language inventory is often cheaper and less contested than English for the same customer. Both facts should change your budget, and most businesses ignore both.

What you are actually paying for

A social media ad budget has three separate line items, and confusing them is the most common budgeting mistake we see.

Media spend. The money that goes to Meta, TikTok, YouTube, or LinkedIn. This is the only part that buys impressions.

Creative production. What it costs to make the ads. Video, photography, graphics, copy, and the variations needed to test properly.

Management. What it costs to run the account, build the audiences, read the data, and make the changes. Either an internal salary, a percentage of spend, or a flat retainer.

A business that budgets $3,000 a month for ads and spends all of it on media, with no creative production and no management, will almost always underperform a business that splits the same money across all three. The platforms have gotten very good at delivery. Creative is now the main variable you control.

What ad spend looks like in South Florida

Rough ranges based on what we see across the tri-county area. These vary by industry and audience, and anyone quoting you exact numbers without knowing your category is guessing.

Meta, broad local awareness targeting: cost per thousand impressions generally lands somewhere in the mid single digits to low teens in dollars, higher in season, higher again for narrow affluent audiences in Palm Beach and Miami Beach.

Meta lead generation in competitive local categories like med spa, legal, home services, and real estate: cost per lead commonly ranges from the low double digits to well over one hundred dollars. Legal and high ticket cosmetic procedures sit at the top of that range.

TikTok: usually cheaper on impressions than Meta, with a wider variance on quality. It rewards creative that feels native and punishes anything that looks like a repurposed television spot.

YouTube pre-roll: lower cost per view, longer path to conversion, better for consideration than for direct response.

Spanish-language creative: in this market it frequently delivers lower costs for the same audience, because fewer advertisers produce it properly. Not a translated caption, actual Spanish creative.

Minimum viable media spend for a local business that wants to learn something real is about $1,500 to $3,000 a month. Below that, you will not gather enough data to make decisions, and you will spend six months guessing.

What creative production costs

This is the part we handle, so here are our actual ranges.

A single production day with full crew, producing fifteen to thirty ad variations across multiple concepts, generally runs $4,500 to $9,500. Every booking includes a director, a DP, an audio engineer, and a producer, which on an ad day matters because you are shooting many short setups against a clock.

A monthly creative retainer, where we produce new ad creative on an ongoing cadence with edits, graphics, and captions, typically runs $5,000 to $12,000 per month.

Editing only, where you supply footage and we build the variations, generally starts around $2,000 per month.

Static and motion graphics packages for ad testing usually run $1,200 to $3,500 depending on volume.

We produce most ad creative at The Chat Room, our Miami Beach studio at 420 Lincoln Rd, which has four sets. For ad testing, four environments in one day means genuinely different creative rather than the same shot with a different caption on top.

Seasonality and the South Florida auction

Plan for this. Costs climb from late November and stay elevated through Easter. The spikes around Art Basel in early December, the boat show, Miami Swim Week, and any major event weekend are real and they affect every advertiser in the DMA, not just the ones targeting visitors.

What to do about it: build the creative library in the off season when production scheduling is easier, and be ready to accept a higher cost per result in season because the customers are also more valuable then. A lead in January from a seasonal resident is often worth more than a lead in August. Judge the season on revenue, not on cost per click.

How to set a budget that makes sense

Work backward from a customer, not forward from a number you are comfortable with.

Start with what a customer is worth over twelve months. Then decide what you are willing to pay to acquire one, usually somewhere between ten and thirty percent of that figure depending on margin. Multiply by the number of customers you want per month. That is your media spend target.

Then add creative production and management on top. A reasonable starting split for a local business is roughly sixty percent media, thirty percent creative, ten percent management, adjusting as you scale. As spend grows, media takes a larger share, because good creative gets reused across more impressions.

And give it ninety days. Thirty days of ad data in a market this seasonal tells you almost nothing.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a small local business spend monthly? For a meaningful test, plan on $1,500 to $3,000 in media plus creative production. Less than that produces data too thin to act on.

Do you run the ads or just make the creative? We produce the creative and the variations, and we either work alongside your media buyer or handle the strategy ourselves depending on the engagement.

How many ad variations do we need? Start with three to five distinct concepts, each with three to four hooks. Testing one ad against itself is not testing.

Is it worth producing Spanish versions? In this market, usually yes. Produce actual Spanish creative rather than subtitling the English cut.
